The next 24 to 48 hours will bring a tricky forecast for temperatures. Arctic air has been spilling into the region today, but cloud cover will insulate, and winds will be brisk enough to keep the lowest levels of the atmosphere mixed up, and those two factors will minimize any radiational cooling that could take place overnight. The problem is finding where the balance is between the amount of cold air moving in vs the forces against additional cooling. Computer model guidance/forecasts are all over the place, so the possible scenarios are many, thus limiting forecast confidence. Look for cloudy skies tonight with patchy drizzle. Lows in the Hill Country will be in the low to mid 30s. The air is dry enough up there that any drizzle should be very localized and light. While freezing drizzle in the Hill Country is NOT a concern, the ingredients are close enough that its something that should be monitored on the off chance that everything comes together just right (or wrong, depending on your point of view). Lows elsewhere across the region will be in the upper 30s and low 40s. Look for a low of about 39° in San Antonio. Cloudy skies and patchy drizzle will be around throughout Tuesday, with highs in the 50s - although some locations in the Hill Country might not get out of the 40s. The high in San Antonio should be about 53° - but computer models are forecasting anything from 45° to 60° - so be prepared for anything. Wednesday will see cloudy skies with more patchy drizzle and milder temps. Lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. The rest of the week is looking just as dreary, but warmer. Other than a few occasional breaks of Sun, there will be cloudy skies and more patchy drizzle. Lows on the upper 50s and low 60s, highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. #TXwx #SATwx #AUSwx
