One day a celebrated master illuminator arrives from foreign lands carrying an ancient but unfinished book, brimming with secret wisdom and powers. To help complete the magical book, Brendan has to overcome his deepest fears on a dangerous quest that takes him into the enchanted forest, where mythical creatures hide. It is here that he meets the fairy Aisling, a mysterious young wolf-girl, who helps him along the way. But with the barbarians closing in, will Brendans determination and artistic vision illuminate the darkness and show that enlightenment is the best fortification against evil? Poitín: Poitín (1977) was the first feature film to be made entirely in the Irish language (Gaelic). It was also the first recipient of a film script grant from the Arts Council of Ireland. Other works from Bob Quinn, and his production company Cinegael, include Atlantean, Budawanny and Lament for Arthur OLeary. Poitín is widely regarded as a classic of Irish cinema. It tells the story of a Conamara moonshiner, his daughter and two cheating agents whom they outwit and bring to a tragic end. The story has a de Maupassant atmosphere, but has its comic moments.
