The next day happened to be a saturday. Fortunately and unfortunately there was no inspection. Fortunately because I wont have to spread my hard-washed white bedsheet and unfortunately because the weather looked like we were going to be drilled. SS2 downwards! SS2 downwards! Senior EneAda roared as she bounced into the hostel. What baffled me most about her was that she was not a prefect but she behaved as though she was the headgirl and labor prefect put together. Every junior student was afraid of her, even the stubborn ones but more scary to me was the fact that she was Senior Graces close pal. All of una make una lie down she commanded. We all obeyed grudgingly. I wondered why these seniors will not speak simple normal English. The pidgin thing was trending and it was becoming unbearably annoying. I would have done so much good to myself if I did not bother getting angry about english that did not concern me because there were more serious things to come. Moreover lying down was going to be just a tip of the Iceberg. The rest of the seniors came out one after the other with different types and phases of punishment. That day, we picked pin, pumped, squated and frog jumped. Thank God we did not kiss our boyfriend or drive machine but we received 10-10lashes each on our legs. But something puzzled me. Throughout the drilling process, Chigozie was in absentia. I smelt a fish, a well seasoned fish. Where have you been? I inquired of Chigozie when I saw her at the dinning in the evening. In this school now! Where else will I be? she replied Innocently as though she did not understand what I was saying. Chigo, you know am your best friend and I tell you everything but you dont want to tell me your own ba I said childishly peering at her with eyes full of accusation. I will tell you but dont tell anybody o! ok I nodded I went to beg senior Grace on your behalf and promised to do her massage all the time. She is the reason they did not punish you guys more than they did because I pleaded with her to beg Senior EneAda. I dont want You, Eunice and Cynthia to suffer I became dumb, I was grateful for her show of friendship but I still thought it was foolish for her to become cohorts with senior Grace. Juliet!
