The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law - TopicsExpress

The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Acts 4:5-7 sn: Annas and Caiaphas first met Jesus when He was arrested, (John 18:13-14) so their concern was more about keeping their religious power than it was about getting more insight. We need to take note of this, because we can be more concerned about protecting the systems that we have built than what God is doing in our midst, yet Jesus continually calls us to let go of our power structures and follow after Him. This also means that we have to be careful about being stuck in traditions and just saying that we are religious and we definitely do not want to be in a place where we are blocking a move of God because we are so stuck in one way of operating. The point is that we cannot let certain routines and traditions and religion keep us from grasping what God wants to do for us.
