The next few days sees often cloudy skies, rain at times and windy conditions. The largest amounts of rain will be across northern and western parts, and across North West Scotland there is the risk of some localised flooding today, although after today the far north will see more in the way of showery conditions, with some sunny spells and some wintriness to high ground. Mild for most, but turning colder in the far north. Things settle down by Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve and Boxing day should be largely calm but it will have turned quite chilly with the risk of frosts where skies clear. A few showers around, especially in the north where they will be wintry to high ground. For most though, a snow free Christmas. Post Christmas Day there is still the risk of a rapidly deepening area of low pressure crossing the UK, bringing strong winds and North Sea coastal flooding, and then pulling down some colder air behind it which COULD bring a bit more widespread wintry precipitation to some places. However, the track, timing and intensity of that system remain uncertain, and so then does the strength of the winds, where those strongest winds will be and how much cold air will follow in behind it. The details post Christmas are tricky to nail down, but my general thoughts/predictions have remained unchanged and can be seen further down this page. The detail should become more clear over the next few days.
