The next generation of Oculus Rift post their current products (Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 and Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition), from the Oculus Connect conference. The device is code-named Crescent Bay. This version will not be available to the general public yet (though you can still buy Development Kit 2 now or Gear VR later this fall). Units are only given out to hand-picked developers. Oculus has said officially that they will not be releasing an updated version of their hardware until it is consumer-ready (though they guarantee their first consumer-ready device will be at least as good as Crescent Bay). The demo unit tracks complete 360 rotation and also handles positional tracking fairly well (so you dont need to be sitting down or standing still the whole time). It is still tethered but you wouldnt be able to leave the room anyway because the external camera is necessary for the full range of motion and besides the specs are much better than the untethered GearVR. https://youtube/watch?v=By-IcNblqRo
