The northern Atlantic Coast is experiencing what meteorologists refer to as a weather bomb. This is a weather phenomenon that occurs in the winter, usually in areas around the ocean. It is similar in nature to a polar vortex, but it is not quite as serious. This particular bomb is known as Winter Storm Janus and it is affecting thirteen states on the East Coast as well as Washington, D.C. causing closures of schools and other public institutions as well as leading some areas to declare that they are in a state of emergency.
