The number of boating fatalities in Washington hit a record low in 2013. The U.S. Coast Guard released its annual boating statistics report which revealed a total of 560 fatal accidents reported last year. Thats a decrease of 14 percent; the lowest number theyve ever seen! Boating related injuries also decreased by roughly 13 percent. Asotin county boat sergeant Cory Kingsbury says Asotin county hasnt had a boating fatality in four years. Kingsbury thinks the reason boating fatalities have gone down is because of the new implication of the boater safety card. Beginning this year, everyone is required to have this card before they can operate a boat on the water. To get one, you can take classes online or at the sheriffs office. If you get your boating safety card in Idaho, it can also be used in Washington. Http://boat.wa.gov/safety-ed.asp parks.wa.gov/442/Mandatory-Boater-Education
