The number of sharks killed for their fins is unfathomably large; - TopicsExpress

The number of sharks killed for their fins is unfathomably large; some sources estimate as many as 100 million are slaughtered annually. If this practice continues it will wreak untold havoc on our oceans ecosystems. In order to help enforce laws banning the illegal sale, trade, and distributions of shark fins, The Field teamed up with the Institute for Ocean Conservation Science at Stony Brook University in order to develop new methods for identifying degraded tissues from confiscated fins. Its a step in the right direction, but there is still so much work to be done. Help us spread the message.
