The old v/s new teachers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A lot of senior teachers are provided with the computers but they are unable to use it. They carry a phonebook in their wallet/purse. They first prepare of rough draft of a letter on paper and then get it typed on computer. They are unable to use the camera of their mobile to the information handy, and are almost spellbound to see such use. They are unable to set reminders, or set alarms, search anything on google, create a timetable using computers, search/create lesson plans. They put lament for those “good old days” when everything was SIMPLE (?). Well, it is because of only those “good old days” that they are in job, the present generation is far too superior to your boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’ boss’. Thank God for that….!!! If you have competed with the new teachers they would have beaten you in every respect. We are light years ahead of you in EVERYTHING. An incident which cleared all of my doubts about their incompetency goes like this. There is a cell, PADC, Personality Assessment and Development Cell, and there are people who are handling it from the past 20 years. These highly experience faculty members told me to KEEP QUIET because I am not as experienced as them. When the NAAC team asked about the dimensions on which we scale the personality of the students, she was unable to answer it. I have learnt those 10 dimensions in 10 seconds in the same order using Mnemonic techniques. The further discussion went like this…(everything happened in English.) The NAAC team, “How do you improve the self-confidence?” Our Highly experienced facult, “We conduct tests, and give them marks.” The NAAC team, “How does it improve the self-confidence?” Our Highly experienced faculty, “Yes sir, that was what I was telling, we check the copies, and give them marks, then sir, we do counseling and guide accordingly.” The NAAC team, “Yes, but how do you improve the self-confidence?” Our Highly experienced faculty, “We do counseling and guide accordingly.” The NAAC team, “You mean to say, counseling and guidance improves self-confidence?” Our Highly experienced faculty, “Yes sir…!!” The NAAC team, “What guidance do you give?” Our Highly experienced faculty, “We tell them that they should attend the class regularly, and that they should read whatever topic is going to be discussed in the class.” The NAAC team, “And this improves self-confidence?” Our Highly experienced faculty, “Yes sir, the reason for the lack of self-confidence is that the child does not know about the topic, once the child goes through the topic, he feels CONFIDENT.” The NAAC team, “Very Good…. Excellent…!!!!” Our Highly experienced faculty, “Thank you sir…!!!” Our Highly experienced faculty’s juniors, “Ma’am it is very good that you answered in English. The best part is the communication skills. Ma’am, you have talked with confidence. He might be thinking that since you are from Hindi department, you would not be good at English. Instant replies and the presence of mind, it comes only with experience. Hai na … Puneet sir?” (I am puneet sir.) Puneet sir, “Yes madam…!!!” I know everything, these teachers usually say that they welcome suggestions and they are open to learn, but as soon as I will tell them something logical, they will start defending themselves, and will tell me that I am a kid. (All of them are 10 years older.) Earlier when I advised them something, they mistook, and told me that they have tried it 12 years ago and it was not successful then. The most solid reason they give is, “yaha pe aise he hota hai.” (In this college this thing is done like this only.) Some of the teachers are very particular about using very heavy words. They think that their knowledge cannot be demonstrated without using bombastic words. therefore, whenever they speak the lucidity is sacrificed. And the students need to decipher what the teacher is speaking. “Lagna bhi to chahiye ki hum padhaate hai…!!” (It must be felt that we teach.) The Hindi teachers make it a point to put all the ADJECTIVES and ADVERBS they know to explain a simple concept such as the daily activity of the department. They write everything as if they are writing a letter to the principal. Vinamr nivedan, anumodan, kripa kijiye, REHENE DIJIYE…!!! But, was that the purpose of speaking? We want to make the students understand what we say…. Isn’t it? “20 saal ho gaye…. Yeh padhate padhate…” (20 years have elapsed teaching this.) The experience which they boast of is an experience of 1 year multiplied by 20 times. Have they learnt anything? Whenever they write in English, it is punctuated with grammatical error and spelling mistakes. The worst thing is they ask ME to write their applications. ……. So I was talking about that particular advise which I gave and I was reminded that I was a kid. Exactly after 93 days, when a very senior faculty with an experience of 40+ years gave the same advise, all of the very experienced faculties accepted it by saying, “dekha, ye hota hai experience…!!!” (See, this is called experience.) That has nothing to do with experience, it was COMMONSENSE. Sadly, I do not have any MALE COLLEAGUES in the language department, and I am the least experienced in the field of teaching. And since it is MUST for a gentleman to keep mum among ladies…. Sorry… women, I usually keep mum, and if at all, I have to say anything, I say, “Yes Madam…!!!”
