The ongoing saga of the fish woman...those of you who know me well know the only place I like to see fish is served on a plate, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I am responsible for FOUR aquariums. Well here goes! Seems like, every time Flawless is out of town, something is destined to happen to one of the tanks. Yesterday I noticed one of the above tank pumps was making a rattling sound. This is not normal, tanks are suppose to be serene and quiet, with only minimal noise of a dumb fish beating his brains out on the cover or an occasional blup. Not this one! It sounded like it had grimalins inside of it. As most people do when confronted with a job they dislike, I tried to ignore it. Needless to say, I could not sleep do to all of the racket it was creating. Today I decided to try to fix my problem. I disassembled the pump and cleaned it and each piece thoroughly and reassembled and still a knawing sound! Using my best detective skills, I got close to the pump and listened. The gerbils were still running on their wheel so I figured it must have to do with the impeller. I take the impeller out again and check to see if it will spin freely on the shaft and I notice it is sticking. I cleaned the propeller again and even gave it a soak in peroxcide, scrubbing the shaft with a toothbrush and reassembling it. I think I may have solved the problem but will have to wait and see. I know part of our problem stems from having sand as our flooring. I am not going to change that!!!! Like I often say, Fish fry anyone?
