The only fan letter I ever wrote as a kid was to this man... Morris Mac Davis. His songs moved me and inspired me to write. I loved his TV show, too. I especially loved the segment where he seemingly made up songs on the spot based on song titles audience members gave him. I was enthralled. His songs In The Ghetto and Dont Cry Daddy gave a layer of depth and emotion to Elvis music that hadnt been there before. My memories of Macs songs I Believe In Music and Baby Dont Get Hooked On Me and other gems are seasoned with the warm crackle of the old vinyl on which I first heard them. This song (Memories) is one of my favorites that he wrote... the chord changes, the imagery, the emotion. Truth is, his name had a little something to do with my connection to ol Mac, too : )
