The only residence in Hillsborough County for homeless female veterans will present “Sun City Center Salutes the Athena House” on Oct. 5 at Community Hall. The BYOB fundraiser will include a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 7. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at community hall, 1910 Pebble Beach Blvd., lobby weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon through Oct. 3. Tables seat eight. Entertainment will include music by Manuel Escadero, singers Nancy Burridge and Al Spatola, emcee/comedian Bill Barker, the toe-tapping Sunsations and a special performance by the Brandon Ballet. The Athena House is part of Tampa Crossroads, a veterans assistance center, at 5118 N. Nebraska Ave. in Tampa. It was founded to serve female veterans in 2008 by Executive Director Sarah Romeo after meeting a woman referred to Tampa Crossroads in lieu of serving a five-year prison sentence for stealing food from trash cans.
