The only work that will ultimately bring any good to any of us is the work of contributing to the healing of the world. ~Marianne Williamson Day 50: Upavistha Konasana (Wide-Angle Seated Forward Fold) If you havent noticed, we at Healsci are really big on pose, counter pose. This is because it is the easiest and most effective way to maintain physical and athletic balance in the myofascial system. Finding harmonious eccentric strength between the front, back, and sides of the body gives us the ability to perform optimally. From a hip opening pose such as Setu Bhandha Sarvangasana (Bridge), we transition into a hip flexing pose like Upavistha Konasana (Wide-Angle Seated Forward Fold/Bend). As you fold forward in upavistha, note that the stretch does not come for the forward fold. Instead the stretch comes from the external rotation of the femur at the hip joint as you fold forward. Also, do not be tempted by the forward bend into rounding your spine. Do everything in your power to lead with your belly button. This will help you create length in the front body as well as space and traction in-between each vertebra. #YogaAnatomy May you find peace in this pose. Namaste
