The operation on Susans brain tumour last week went well. Most of the tumour was removed in a procedure known as debulking. Susan has been making a strong recovery from the operation and she is now back at home and feeling better than she has for several months. The bad news is that the tumour is aggressive. The good news is that it is treatable. Susan will shortly commence a combined course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre lasting about six weeks. Surgical intervention occurred early and Susan is otherwise fit and healthy, so there is a reasonable prospect that this treatment will be successful. Also, this type of tumour does not form secondary growths elsewhere in the body, which is one less thing to have to worry about. Susans consultant neurosurgeon at Walton and her consultant oncologist at Clatterbridge are both excellent and her treatment is being managed seamlessly as the focus moves from the former facility to the latter. Susan is maintaining a strong and positive attitude and I am hopeful that there will be a successful outcome.
