The opposite is usually truer than not, but Paul Thomas Andersons film Inherent Vice improves upon the novel on which it was based (although admittedly, I have never been a huge fan of Pynchons post-modern shaggy dog fictions) and is, along with Ida, Boyhood, Zero Theorem, The Babadook and Frank, among my favorite films of the past year (I have yet to see Mr. Turner and A Most Violent Year, each which I eagerly anticipate). https://youtube/watch?v=wZfs22E7JmI
