The original language in the Declaration of Independence stated, We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and property. It was later changed from property to pursuit of happiness after the abolition of slavery. This has been to the detriment of land owners all over the United States, especially recently.
