The other NY18 page (bizarrely calling itself a forum --- they might want to look up the definition of that word, by the way), says that we leftists are out of touch with the American people based on this Pew poll. Well, if we are out of touch, then we are not bothered. Because this poll seems to show something about the American electorate that is out of touch with basic morality. Was there a popular outcry in Germany when Hitler took over and commenced his own atrocities against humanity? History gives us the answer to that. While it appears that it is highly unlikely that any of the individuals responsible for this eras travesty will be held to account for their actions, it is important that the American people understand the gravity of the (yes, we will say it) legal and moral transgressions that occurred (and may still be happening). Because a slim majority of Americans feel the inhumane actions perpetrated by our government were justified does not in any way change our minds (or, we assume, the minds of the 49% who do not see any justification at all, but rather a rejection of basic human values). Cheney et al brought this nation down to a level no better than the people who waged terror on this country --- and in doing so, they created a whole new generation of anti-American terrorists.
