The other day I found myself waiting for an extended period of time for my client to finish a doctors appointment with nothing but a press democrat to occupy me. Since I had already read all of my usual sections of the paper I was forced to look deeper.. Like really deep. I began reading the public notice section that appears across the bottom of several pages in the Empire News section. l Although it is mostly filled with boring fictitious name , transfer of Ownership , and Probate NOtices I found some very compelling things that I want to share. In Tues. paper there is a notice that our drinking water has been contaminated. IN Aug. Nine samples were taken and tested for the presence of contaminants. Five of those came back positive for Coliforms. The Department of Health and Safety sets the standard at one positive test per month. For some reason this is not considered an emergency. However for people with compromised immune systems, such as my husband, there are at risk. How horrifying to have stumbled upon this information on the accident. We should have been notified even if it wasnt an emergency. Another article in Tuesdays paper is a notice from CPS to the parents of Isabella Rose Avery that the county will be holding a hearing to terminate their parental rights forever and the child is being put up for adoption. I do not know any details of the case but was saddened that the only notice to these parents comes in tiny writing at the bottom of the paper. Having been on the wrong side of CPS myself , sometimes they arent exactly fair. Forever is a very long time. I wish I knew how these people were so I could tell them of the hearing. Tragic. I would like to take this chance to appeal to everyone to take just a few minutes when reading the paper to skim this section for important information that could apply to you or someone you know.
