The other day I heard some plaintiff calls for help for ‘innocent Detroiters’ who will lose their pensions in this bankruptcy. ‘It’s not their fault there was corruption and mismanagement.’ I don’t want to be a Simon Legree but – for more than 50 years, Detroit voters elected and reelected all those corrupt, inept politicians. Many of those ‘innocent’ citizens benefited from higher wages and bigger promises. Now that the bills have come due and there is no cash in the “lock box” they want to be bailed out? Now they want to spend $283 million for a sports center? I live in a community that is well managed by the politicians that we elected. Of course, we have some corruption but we weed it out every time it is uncovered. Why should I pay for Detroit’s corruption?
