The other day, a married woman who is just 3yrs old in marriage told me that she wants to leave her husband. I was wondering what type of advice she wants from me. She seems to have made up her mind. Her story was long, to her, her reasons may be genuine but what was she expecting me to tell her? Was just thinking why should she even tell me? We are not that close. Am I qualified to advice her on what to do? So make I tell her ok leave him.. so that God will give me kondo for head abi? She looked disappointed when I told her to pray, just pray. Yes, just that he will change. My words was short- just pray. The rate of divorce these days(mostly unofficial) is touching. Is it not marriage that my father have been into for more than 40yrs now? Since I was born, I have NEVER seen my parents attempting to exchange words or call each other names before us the children. Sure they dialogue on issues, but it doesnt cause raising of voices or physical combat. Now I ask: what causes fracas in marriage? Lack of money or too much money? Our fathers lived on akpu, 2/3times per day, trekked long distances to farmlands & streams to fetch water, but lived happily together. Divorce was rare then. Despite the modern theory that when you date well, you have less cause for divorce, yet the story have not changed. Most of our parents never dated, my father story of how he mate my mother was a funny one. Divorce we know is foreign to us here in those days. Its American /European culture. Are you sure its not because we have started eating their foods, dressing like them and emulating their culture? This is not the issue of been religious or not, even some clerics are setting example for us which by Gods grace we shall not follow. Challenges, sure will come, but erase divorce out of your minds, just focus on making it work. I pray for you friends, your marriages will work, you will overcome every tide/storm, love-the oil of marriage shall never cease in your homes in Jesus name!
