The other day, me and my main man Michael Booysen and the beautiful Marishka HP Diebold went and surfed Off the Wall on a blustery Friday afternoon. Now I have surfed OTW before and I kinda deal with the locals by just staying under the proverbial radar. Which I would say works. So I arrive out at 2 maybe 3 foot Off the wall to the utter dismay of the local crew, who shook their heads continuously muttering profanities under their breathes. Which I can handle, I understand that they want their piece of hollow paradise surrounded by the most expensive real estate to remain untainted by the masses.And in some ways I respect the fact that they fight hard to keep it that way. Not only do you have to deal with the technical ledge upon take off, but also the technical social climate, which makes exit from a pit all the more satisfying. But after the majority of locals left after we paddled out, there remained one bodyboarder local who proceeded to give us the hardest of times.Now this was no Jonny Maritz or even Sasha Specker, he was a slightly over weight (and I say that in the nicest of ways) not older then 18 years old, cocky little man. The type of young man you would be pleased to dish up a bit of grom abuse. But instead we were all hussled and insulted by this grom. And we walked/paddled away bewildered, as bewildered as a man could be at the asking prices of some of those small flats nearby.
