The other night someone pulled into our driveway. Mom and I got up to go look. It was an ambulance and the Elkins police department were behind them. They turned around and went up to our neighbors. Our neighbor is an elderly man. He lives alone with his dog, Susie. I watched as they loaded our neighbor up and took him to the hospital. The next day, mom noticed that our neighbors front door was wide open. This is when dad tells me about Susie, our neighbors dog. Dad then made several calls to local hospitals and he was able to locate our neighbor, Al. Al said that Susie was alone in the house and he had no one to check on her. The temperature that night was about 5 degrees. So dad and I went to check on Susie. The emergency crew had left all of the house doors open and had left Susie inside. The house was freezing and her water bowl was completely frozen. The water pipes in his house were frozen and they burst the next day. We have taken it upon ourselves to take care of Als best friend, Susie, until he comes home. I dont know how emergency crew could leave a poor dog to the elements like that. But I do know we all need to watch out for and check on our elderly friends as the weather continues to plummet.
