The paperwork is in. I am officially a Candidate for election as Councillor to the 4th Ward of the Municipality of Russell-Binscarth! To borrow a line from the Mission Statement of the Strong Towns organization: “Local government is a platform for citizens to collaboratively build a prosperous place.” Residentially, we need to ensure our communities become more accessible, efficient, and prosperous. Changes to residential services, access, and amenities must always enhance property values, and make our communities more attractive to newcomers. What do we want our community to look like in five, ten, or even twenty years? This question demands an answer, and we need to know what steps to take first. Newcomers will flock to a welcoming, growing community, with a strong service sector, housing that suits their needs and lifestyle, and a proactive council. Commercially, we are an agriculturally based community: a true Prairie Town. We need to acknowledge and embrace that identity. Our farmers and agricultural specialists know the importance of establishing their outputs in National and Global marketplaces. We need to do the same for our new and existing businesses. It is essential that we nurture and support them in finding success in these external markets, thus ensuring a steady stream of new money into the community. As they grow, so does our local job base, attracting more families, business, and prosperity. If you want to bend my ear about anything at all, you know where to find me. I look forward to a good race!
