The parliamentary oversight committee on works, housing and infrastructure in parliament on March 16, 2014 invited the Rural Private Sector Development Project to account for the current project they are having at hand. Hon. Jusifu B Mansaray who chaired the meeting said they are working in line with the president’s agenda for prosperity for better Sierra Leone. He said it is the duty and responsibility to develop Sierra Leone.Mr. Alimamy Kargbo, grant manager for the R.P.S.D.P said they are working on the feeder roads in Kailahun, Kono and Kenema. He disclosed to members that they work in places they have received funding for, even though there are delays in procurement issues by the local councils for the release of funds. He said hopefully by June the first phase of the project will be completed. Hon. Amadu Kanu contributing to the discussion said there are some contracts that are not in the best interest of the people because of the way they are doing the work for the people in their communities. He said the R.P.S.D.P should be looking for contractors that are qualified for certain contract so that prudent use of the tax payer’s money will be maximized. He called for effective monitoring of contractors in the field. Mr. Usif R. Sesay, Finance Officer the R.P.S.D.P said the World Bank, Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance are experiencing bottlenecks in the release of funds for the projects. He said they have signed the MOU with the S.L.R.A to monitor the projects and ensure projects are completed on time.
