The part of the story the guy is leaving out of an otherwise - TopicsExpress

The part of the story the guy is leaving out of an otherwise impeccable narrative is that after Black September, Saddam invited the PLO into Iraq as enforcers for his regime, because they were outsiders and thus an fixed variable in Iraqs fractiously tribal society. Saddam later came to believe the PLO wasnt worth the trouble they brought with them (links to terrorism and constant efforts by Arafat to set up his own power base within Iraq, the same nonsense he pulled that got him kicked out of Jordan and Lebanon). After the Gulf War, Kuwait came to perceive anyone who was or affiliated with the Palestinians as a potential fifth column - they were subject to severe persecution and many were expelled. I think it is much more likely this guys family were one of the many educated, forward-looking Palestinians who were repeatedly abandoned and betrayed by their fellow Arabs, got fed up with their hypocritical and dysfunctional culture, and ultimately threw up their hands and converted to Judaism. From my own personal experience, Ive had dealings with some Kuwaiti oil princes. I can definitely attest they are very medieval and extraordinarily bigoted in outlook and that Kuwait is a typical Arab oil state - a fools paradise of autocracy gilded with oil wealth.
