The past few days while I was working on a register, people commented that I shouldnt have fun at work, or that we seemed to be having too much fun. These were all made jokingly of course, but it got me to thinking. Do these customers think that they have found the one place on earth where people just love working a register? Or do they think theyve finally found a minimum wage job that constantly entertains its employees? The truth is that work, by definition, is something you do to meet an end. Its not something that you will inherently enjoy, or even have a good chance of loving. The truth is that my coworkers and I have fun because we have no other choice. You either make the best of a bad situation, or drown in it. We appear to be having too much fun because we joke with each other about everything, from the good, to the downright horrible. A day is what you work to make it.
