The past few weeks I have been posting a clip from my standup - TopicsExpress

The past few weeks I have been posting a clip from my standup comedy special on Tuesdays. However, this Tuesday I am posting another link. This is a link from Marc Maron podcast interview with Robin Williams. I was so saddened to hear the news yesterday and I feel like the world is emptier today than it was yesterday? Its one of those deaths that I never expected even though I knew he had problems. Reflecting on Robin Williams has made me realize how much he inspired me as a comedian and an actor. He actually went to my high school years before me and I remember seeing him perform live when I was in high school when me and 2 of my best friends took a trip from Marin into San Francisco. It was one of those nights when youre at the comedy club and theres only a few people there and they say Robin Williams has stopped by to do a set. Me and my other high school buddies were ecstatic. Since we were some of the only people there that night he had fun with us and we were over the moon. When he found out we were Marin kids he made fun of us being privileged, but not in a mean way. In a very funny way that made our night and probably made our year! I remember many of his films and how touched I was by his performances. As a young kid my parents dropped me and my even younger brother off to see Popeye. I was 8 or 9 then so I had no idea what I was doing. My dad gave me some money and left me and my 4 year old brother to see the film. I bought us 2 large popcorns, 2 large drinks, 2 red vines and 2 of everything else that we could carry and we went in to watch Robin Williams as Popeye. I was a huge fan of Popeyes and to see the movie with his performance at that age was mind blowing for me. For a kid that was an amazing day at the movies. I was in Italy, studying abroad when I saw him in the Fisher King outdoors at the Venice Film Festival. To this day, this is one of my favorite movies. His humanity came through on that one and he was more than just a funny man. You could see that he was someone with a big heart. Only someone with such a big heart could play that part so well. I have always wanted to lay down naked in Central Park and stare at the stars like he does in that movie. I dont know if Id get arrested, but I really want to do it and I was only inspired by his character in that film to do so. Dead Poets Society was one of my favorite films in high school. Captain, my captain and Carpe Diem became favorite phrases of mine to use. And on and on it goes. I would often miss him at the comedy clubs and never had a chance to meet him in person, but I only heard amazing things about him. In my heart I felt that I would get a chance to be at the Comedy Store or Laugh Factory or Comedy Cellar when he dropped by one night, but it never happened! I wanted to tell him how cool I thought it was that I went to his high school and just talk to him really. Nothing more. I just wanted to meet him and say hi. It really is a tough reality to accept, but one of the funniest people to ever live and one of the kindest people has passed away. That doesnt make his passing any different than someone else who passes, but knowing that he influenced me and touched me in what I am today makes it hard to accept. I dont know what else to say and know that many people are saying many many things about this man. May he rest in peace and I hope you get a chance to listen to this interview. Its a great one! wtfpod/podcast/episodes/remembering_robin_williams
