The past two weeks I have purchased newspapers for coupons. Some - TopicsExpress

The past two weeks I have purchased newspapers for coupons. Some of the best ones come out at this time of year (from what I have seen over the past couple of years). However, I am hesitant about purchasing much of what I could get for cheap since they are primarily processed items that I could otherwise make from scratch. It boils down to convenience, whether or not I want to use crap processed items because they offer me convenience when I am so busy here at home. It is so easy to get lured into convenience products. But, it is not always what is best. For example, last week I made an Alfredo sauce from scratch. That recipe includes shredded romano cheese (which is $2 per 5 oz. container), a pint of heavy cream ($2), and fresh garlic and onion. My from-scratch recipe is nearly double in cost then that I would buy in a jar. But, the difference is amazing and so much healthier since you know exactly what ingredients are in what you make. One great example of that is that in basic loaves of bread at the store there is high fructose corn syrup. When I bake my bread, its yeast, flour, milk, water, a little sugar and sometimes butter. Why would anyone need high fructose corn syrup in bread? I will admit though that there are three convenience products I regularly buy. Dino chicken nuggets, frozen vegetables, and generic mac and cheese. Nuggets are great for the kids when I have had a long day. Frozen veggies are just easy for me to cook for dinner without having to worry about any prep. Generic mac and cheese? That is just awesome to chow on when nothing else looks appetizing.
