The people who are protesting as Occupy Central can basiclly do nothing but show off their stupidity that results from the lack of profoundly objective mindset. Personally, I cant help doubting that what are these kids(most of them are high school students or college students in adolescence) really asking for...For democracy? Or for the vanity of HK being the most influential finacial and business centre of Asia in the bygone 20th Century but now falling down to a status in which HKs development and prosperity inevitably rely on mainland China, where the situation used to be reversed decades ago, due to the rising of a bunch of major cities in mainland that replace HKs title nowadays? 1. HK has never had something that has anything to do with democracy before being a British colony and during the years being colonised. After the resolution of the British HK Government, Beijing government decided to help HK keep in the path where its economy used to grow during the time being colonised, known as One country, two systems Policy, and tried to give HK people the right to attend a general election and make their own Cheif Executive. Although this election could not make up to even 50% of contribution to select a nominee, it still stands as a start of democracy in HK. But, it seems that the people who are illegally occupying downtown HK want more. Why are they stupid? -For those who want a more democratic HK as a part of China, because they forget how USSR collapsed - over-radical political reform. Almost nothing could accomplish in one action. Any hasty decision would only be something that damages the one who made it, espectially for political issues. It is not the fact that HK people could not have democracy, but the fact that it takes time. A radically hasty political reform will tear this country apart, not only HK, but also other places in mainland China might grudge and follow the pace. Thats why Beijing government will never give compromise to the people who trample one of the prestiges that HK is famous for: a highly-legalised special administrative region. -For those who provoke that HK must be an independent country, Im sorry: this is treason that will be punished in extreme penalty that every law can give. No matter which country governs HK, treason is always one of the most unacceptable crimes, without exception. Besides, personally, even if HK becoms independent succesfully, it would only go worse than what it is in every aspect, faster than anyone else could imagine - it has neither solid fundation nor power to sustain HK as a country to continuously develop. 2. HK was known as one of The Four Asian Tigers decades ago, when mainland China has just stepped out of the great recession brought by the Great Cultural Revolution and therefore was trying to initialise Reforming and Opening-up Policy. The fact that HK was the biggest commercial centre, goods distribution centre, finacial centre and the most essential gate and harbour of southern China gave HK people a pretty good time for decades. At that time, the situation was totally different from what it is now: the economic growth of China depended on the prosperity of HK. All of these made HK a symbol of prosperity and the proud of Asia back in time, and its people took pride in the title of their hometown. However, things happening right now are changing the decades-long actuality. Mega cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen have now overshadowed HK, even the cities like Guangzhou are catching up very quickly. The fact right now is that without mainlands support, HK will not survive. Some people say this is the most miserable failure of One country, two system Policy. Objectively, HK is just a pawn of whatever governs it, and every pawn must always serve to the core interest of country. Being colonised by UK, HK kept growing in a aparently high rate, simply because British government wanted HK to create a greatest merit to offset the falling of the quondom empire on which the sun never sets. After the return of HK, facing the critical challenge of the time, HK played a role as an engine that gives power to the development of mainland. This role-changing situation surely makes HK people uncomfortable, frustrated and jealous: a place used to rule the area have now become just a foil. Unfortunately and actually, the descent on HKs economic status is natually inevitable as mainland China is catching up. With this mindset, the motivation of some of the people in HK who spontaneously rise against Beijing government is quite self-evident. Nevertheless, it is not helpful at all, and even worse, it makes a rod on HKs own back.
