Montgomery Clift “Morris Townsend” period coat from The Heiress. (Paramount, 1949) In the William Wyler period drama The Heiress, Montgomery Clift plays the “Morris Townsend”. This is a period car coat worn by Clift as the charming huckster. Consisting of a knee-length coat of navy blue and fine pinstriped wool. Self cover button front closure, darted waist and no exterior pockets. Self-covered button vents in the back of the garment. Interior lined in ebony satin in the body and crème satin in the sleeves. Acuna Hollywood bias tag present sewn into internal breast pocket and handwritten, “Clift, Montgomery, June 1–48” and “Paramount Pictures Men’s Wardrobe” stamp on interior collar. Highly visible in the film and in publicity materials and photos. In vintage, very good to fine condition. $2,000 - $3,000
