The persecution and murder of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan continues, oppressed by the state and loathed by a society prone to hysterical outbursts and blood-letting in the name of a compassionate and merciful god. Blasphemy, the ever elastic accusation that one has dared dissent from acceptable utterances on Sunni Islam, keeps minorities in a state of very rational fear. This is why religion must be contained within the personal sphere, away from the power of the state. Self-appointed hangmen, righteous murderers, and their apologist clerics must never be afforded a revered, or feared, status in society.
