“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of the government in the next.” -Abraham Lincoln ELA – English Language Arts – is the aspect of Common Core that MN has officially signed on to. Please be aware of what your child is learning. And if you hear the term Common Core/Race To The Top, take action! Whether or not you think this is indoctrinations, the facts are: It teaches our children starting at 6 years old to manipulate people (in this case parents) slant the facts to reach their desired goal and totally dismiss parental authority. In the third grade book the goal stated is to measure the attitudes, BELIEFS, and dispositions. They track this by observing their growth, change, behavior and attitude. Why does the government need to know this? And what questions will be on the standardized test? How is this language arts? What happened to good old fashioned grammar, spelling etc. And dont forget... The teachers, once Common Core is fully implemented will be paid upon performance, their students performance. This not only will encourage teachers to teach to the test, but what if the test and curriculum include things the teacher, students, parents or anyone for that fact are opposed to? You are out of luck because it will be run by the Federal Government! I dont care what political party you stand with, this is not wise. Why would my school adopt Common Core? Well simply put...the bribe money, er um, I mean $4.35 billion available in federal grants if they sign on. Facts about Common Core 1.National student database – over 400+ data points collected, including child’s medical history and PARENTS POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS AFILIATIONS!-why? 2.Federally mandated –NO LOCAL OR PARENT CONTROL! 3.Curriculum not written nor approved by educators: 1.English classic literature is greatly diminished; 4.Math skills delayed by 2 years; 5.Untested (no field test) curriculum; 6.More testing, high-stakes tests, including biofeedback 7.Local tax dollars will have to pay the bill: Approximately 13.7 million for the state of Minnesota 8.Brought in by the 2009 Stimulus Package through RTTT funding. Common Core was not reviewed nor voted on by Congress or State Legislatures. Four main required components according to the grant application. 1.Implement the common standards, which can be renamed by each state -WHY WOULD THEY CARE TO RENAME IT?! WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE? 2.Implement high-stakes testing for common core 3.Implement DATA COLLECTION systems to ensure the movement of all data from local schools/district to the State Longitudinal Database 4.Implement teacher and principal evaluations
