The photos are at CENOTE AZUL from Thursday, October 30, 2014. Yesterday (Friday) Moira Hutchins-fuhr successfully completed her Submerge DPV at Cenote Nai Toucha, part of Sistema Koox Baal. We had two great dives. First dive I took from CENOTE NAI TUCHA “originally Tux Kapaxa – “The Playground Cave” to the CENOTE SAC XIQUIN ...“Little Tiger or Ocelot” area. The second dive we traversed to another area with two more cenotes to the surface. 16Q 0456211 UMT 2251599 N°20 21.434 W°87 25.115 The land owner is Jose Copertino Mass Mahla. The maximum depth is 48 feet/14.6 meters. There are several openings to the surface with one named Cenote Koi. The main permanent guide line begins in the open water. Follow the main line swimming for twenty minutes, jump to your left and follow this 150 foot/ 45.7 meter shortcut and jump back onto a main guide line. This section of the cave system is massive passageways and highly decorated. Turn left and swim 12 minutes to an INAH documented bone site. Another great dive is stay on the main line until you reach a permanent “T” intersection. Turn left and swim 20 minutes to the bone site. Swim straight and eight minutes later you will reach an air dome with two shafts to the surface. From there continue you can swim straight to Cenote Koi or at the far edge of the air dome on the permanent guideline jump to your right 45 feet/13.7 meters for more fabulous cave. To drive to Cenote Nai Tucha drive from the village of Chemuyil approximately 6 kilometers and you have reached a four way intersection. Turn left and drive almost 1 kilometer and there will be an old turnaround the road will go in two directions. Drive south and you will encounter a chain fence gate. With your key, unlock it, drive thru and relock the chain gate. Follow this narrow road for about one kilometer or until you reach a cenote basin with three palapa huts. Park you vehicle and follow the path past the huts down to a wood deck platform. The first explorers in this cenote were Gunnar Wagner and Robbie Schmittner in 1998. There are no bathroom facilities. There is a dive site fee of 150 pesos. A key can be obtained at the Zero Gravity dive store on Highway 307 at the bridge of Puerto Aventuras or from the land owner Jose Copertino Mass Mahla who lives at C. Centsuro Sun x Doromers y Sol Ote, Tulum, Q. Roo, Mexico. His phone number is 984 134 0154. As you drive into Tulum on Highway 307 from the Coba Road take left at the next traffic light and drive two blocks on Avenue Satelite then take a right (one way) on Sol. Drive one block and on the right corner before crossing the street is his house. Knock on the door, pay the dive site and get the key. As of now....NO KEY IS REQUIRED. There is a beautiful cartography map drawn by Daniel Hutnan, Ana Hutnan and Martin (2009) of the Czech Speleological Society and available through the QRSS.
