The pits are dead but my memories remain Of blood sweat tears and the pain Forty years I worked the pit Fear struck with every hit They say the price of coal was high Tears in my eyes I remember those who died I am one of the lucky ones for I survived The work was hard I cannot lie I stand alone and look today for underneath I know what really lays Coal that may never be mined for through those mining days weve drawn a line The pits are dead and memories remain I still bare the scars and pain
