The planet is already in overshoot. It is unlikely that the majority of humans in civilisation will survive past the decline of fossil fuels. And that is providing the biotic collapse we have entered does not kill off humans. Many solutions have been put forward, everything from the myths of renewable power sources, to geo-engineering, to the horror of nuclear, and the wishful thinking of vertical agriculture. None of which address the reality that, these measures can cause equally deleterious impacts upon the natural world as the current direction civilisation is heading within. We are beyond what this planet can carry, and with every ecological community destroyed, carrying capacity shrinks even further. We need to end the destruction whilst there is still air to breathe, water which can sustain life, biospheres from which to draw food, and a planet in homeostasis due to the communities of others with whom we live.
