The plated paintings have evolved around the idea of consumption. Dirtied plates resemble used, partially eaten/ regurgitated meals. Lurking below the left over’s of disproportionate body parts lies a revived image plundered from historical painting or sculpture. The body as ‘meat’ becomes disfigured, infected or revealed through the act of smearing and scraping the plate. Visceral qualities of paint as bodily substance are left oozing and bleeding over the surface. These loosely re-concocted bodily remnants fuse onto the illusionistic image creating a Frankensteinean union. The revived image emerges as either a gentle haunting or more violent possession upon the plate it inhabits. A flux is created between the image unravelling and its re-manifestation, leaving the image to perpetually, beautifully fester.
