The poet expresses some very painful yet true emotions that she has felt as she watched her husband battle an addiction. It is sadly very true and affects most families today. I have watched my true love slowly fade into a stranger due to his addiction. Now I cannot see him, I cant take the rush of emotions that I get. He is not the person I fell in love with. I can only hope and pray that one day he will be better and no suffering. I lost my soul mate to Heroin. I wasnt able to conquer that demon and keep what was mine. I was defeated by a substance that took control of his life in a sinister way, the grip was stronger than him. Loved and lost.
