The point is not to wonder about the possibility that the boy knew. IF he knew, it was because God made him to know, and this is nothing to God. Nor would the fact that the boy knew equate to some sort of a guarantee that the boy is in Heaven now. The point is that God blesses us all with opportunities such as this one to consider what we will face when we die and we step into eternity; opportunities to consider Him and take care of our business with Him to make our eternity secure. The mother of this boy was given a tremendously strong invitation to wake up from her everyday neglect, and now so we have been blessed to consider and tremble before the God who surely made us and will one day call us into reckoning. Consider the state of your soul. How will you be forced to plea before a Holy God on Judgement Day? Your entire life will be judged, and what have you done? The only way for God to NOT punish you for eternity- the just penalty that is due us- is if that penalty was born by the Eternal Son of God in your stead. Turn away from your life and accept that offer. You may never know the day you will die.
