The policy makers in this country including the officials of KNUT, KUPPET and all other trade unions calling for the teachers strike have their children in high cost private schools and academies and would not feel the pinch being out of the classrooms. I am not saying that they have no business asking for their benefits but I am against the manner in which they are doing it. I have participated in negotiations of some CBA and I know that success comes only when both parties embrace the spirit of give and take after establishing that what the workers are demanding is affordable and implementable. The 1997 agreement was made by a government that knew very well what they offered was not implementable and did not mind how a future government would handle it. Both parties should go back to the negotiation table and come up with a good structure. Yes the teachers deserve better terms as we all went through their hands to be what we are today.
