The policy of recommending the most senior judges as heads of - TopicsExpress

The policy of recommending the most senior judges as heads of courts has been altered by the National Judicial Council. At its last meeting which held from March 2-3, 2014 the NJC recommended the Honourable Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa as the President of the Court of Appeal. The Attorney-General, Mohammed Adoke SAN has advised President Goodluck Jonathan to ratify the appointment. The appointment of a substantive president for the Court will end the era of Acting Presidents following the suspension of Justice Ayo Isa Salami as the President of the Court in 2011. The Honourable Justice Dalhatu Adamu is the most senior justice of the Court of Appeal and had acted as the President of the Court. Apart from several complaints of misconduct and abuse of office levelled against him while he was the Acting President of the Court, his Lordship has just been indicted for absenteeism by the National Judicial Council. Hence he was bypassed to pave way for the emergence of the Honourable Justice Bulkachuwa as the President of the Court of Appeal. You can now See why Justice is always blind folded. A judge whom has been indicted for laziness and other unmentionable offences today believes that by the mere fact of accident of his seniority [not by merit and/or his hard work or intellectual dominance of his court] he will be the President of the Court of Appeal. Ha! may this never come to pass, otherwise the head that is rotten will surely infest the whole body with its rottenness. It is this type of seniority not based on merit that stunted the growth of this country for the 100 years. LAW IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. As a lawyer I am ashamed of this situation.\ Please fellow Nigerians join me in saying NO to promotion of indolence over laziness.
