The politics and social message of As Time Goes By... Now, I - TopicsExpress

The politics and social message of As Time Goes By... Now, I know many in this group prefer to avoid discussion of politics all together. If thats you, its probably best you avoid this thread as it probably impossible to talk about politics of the show without some personal politics coming out. Along those lines, please keep this civil. If it does get carried away Ill delete the thread. With those disclaimers out of the way, what do we think of the politics and social message of ATGB? Its never directly addressed, but it is there under the surface. Lionel strikes me as conservative, Rocky and Madge fiscally conservative but socially liberal. Jean is a tricky one. As are the girls really. Ive mentioned this elsewhere, but the general lack of representation of people outside the upper classes worry me. All of them had a looking down the nose view of the working classes, and representations of minorities, such as the chinaman etc are poor. These are just initial thoughts, but I thought Id float them and see what others have to say.
