The power of music is pretty amazing. Today I was listening to a Journey song titled Stone In Love. That is significant for one reason. Back in the day I had a personal trainer named David Pimentel. He was awesome and a great motivator for me. He had me stoked to train I would get really worked up before training, even to the point of throwing up. Many of you see me with a relatively calm exterior as a mellow person. This is really not the case. I am often wound tighter than the tightest drum and relatively adrenaline filled. I get really excited and intense in my own way at times. And I trained like a beast. Dave changed me from being a out of shape guy to a really strong out of shape guy. I also partially tore my left biceps muscle training with him but really due to my own intensity. It was the first of many injuries. Back to music. One morning, on the way to the gym where I trained at 5:30am, I listened to Stone In Love. The music was loud and I was getting psyched to train. Well, I had the greatest workout ever that day. I associated it to that song, so much so, that every morning on the way to the gym I would play this song in hopes of replicating my herculean efforts of that day. I did this for a long time. As I heard the song today I had a good feeling come over me and remembered many good times. Now, other songs also bring forth good feelings, some of which I do not know why. Many from the mid to late 70s remind me of a pretty girl I danced with to this song. I do not remember the girl or even what she looked like but I do remember the fun feelings of infatuation that I felt. Songs from the early 80s remind me of my wife and experiences we shared. Especially prominent among them is Celebration by Kool and the Gang whom we saw on our first date to Disneyland. That song always brings a huge smile to my face. As we associate songs to experiences we peg them together and one brings up the other. Now, as I think of this, why cant we be like songs? We cant we do wonderful things for and with people so that when they have pleasant experiences or thoughts we can be part of them or our presence can help stimulate them. I guarantee as we go about doing good and helping people great feelings will come to people as they are around us. These profound feelings will develop into deep relationships of love and strength which I believe is a major reason we are here on the earth, to develop the kind of love towards others that our Heavenly Father and our Savior have toward everyone. You cannot have too many people to love, as you give your love away it grows and multiplies and you are exponentially richer for it. Let us all write a great symphony with our lives that serves to bless all who are around us. I know we will be happier ourselves and make the world a much better place.
