“The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” - Barack Obama, 2007 I have the authority to address the threat from ISIL. - Barack Obama, 2014 U.S. Constitution: Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution makes it clear that only the Congress has the power to take the nation to war. ************************ So on the 13th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.......hows that whole America thing going, America? We as a citizenry have watched as the very freedoms we pounded our chests about 13 years ago have been systematically dismantled, our police departments militarized, our phones and emails monitored, torturers run free and make speeches, another illegal war on the table, etc. The responsibility for all of it rests with the American people, who have stood mostly docile and passive in the face of these affronts. Well either wake up to that, or we wont. And with that.........I am intending to stop posting anything about politics on my FB page indefinitely. It seems that most people dont want to know things anyhow, so its seemingly not helpful to share what I consider to be important stuff. But the quality of the debate around issues has varied from fascinating and informed to facepalm-worthy tripe and reflex jingoistic talking points and shouting. Simply put: either something changes radically, or this species is toast. Meanwhile, theres plenty to watch on TV.
