The press conference was this morning and I walked away feeling - TopicsExpress

The press conference was this morning and I walked away feeling inspired. I feel that Sheriff Charlie Creel did an excellent job explaining the findings of the internal affairs investigation and came prepared with copies for whoever in the audience wanted one to take home and review themselves. Although some may have hoped for a different outcome whats most important is that the root cause of why this happened is addressed and handled accordingly. Many of us as private citizens may have expected these deputies to behave in a certain manner on Facebook and some may even argue that common sense should have told them so, however, a documented policy was needed to guide them professionally and without that we cannot hold them to professional consequences if professional expectations were not set. Social media policies are something that every employer will have to deal with at some point in time. Depending on the field or industry those guidelines were set years ago but they were not set without some sort of situation or occurrence happening that yielded a need for them. Wakulla County now has a need for a social media policy that governs the actions of its law enforcement agency and thats OK. This new policy will ensure that negative social media behaviors have clear consequences and that our sheriffs office behaves and acts at the level the community expects. This is a great day in Wakulla and I hope that many are not discouraged but use this incident as a vessel to get involved in the community and advocate for change, clear expectations, and solid consequences. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year & best wishes in 2015! tallahassee/story/news/local/2014/12/30/two-wakulla-deputies-suspended-for-facebook-remarks/21043945/
