The previous post on this topic, which was put up earlier today has been removed. Ive put up the letter from Old Mutual AC again. It is intended as an information piece as there was large scale unhappiness with the event and the organisers from many participants in many clubs throughout the province. This is what Mutual had to say: Feedback from Old Mutual AC after Wednesday nights race..... Good Day All, It is great too see that you took the time to provide comments / feedback of our event. We value your comments. In response to the comments I saw thus far. One of the comments pointed out, the race become too successful. For us this is a good thing, for the participants a frustration and disappointment as the organisation of the event were not at an acceptable level to accommodate the big field. What we intend doing about this. Firstly I would like to say that our strategy we used over the years which contributed to the great success of the race are no longer the correct strategy to use for the size of the field we now getting. In the past we relied on our club members to administer and to marshal. Not that there are a problem using our own but we now realised that this strategy are no longer acceptable as the complaints / feedback indicate that we need to change / do something to drastically improve. Fortunate for us the Vice President of WPA Kevin Harlock was at the finish line together with other Technical Officials. We also receive valuable feedback from Chet Saintsbury. From their expertise they indicated what we can do differently and we already planning on putting measures in place to address the bottleneck at the finish. With regards to safety, traffic jams hooting etc, it is evident that we need to look at this. This year we asked for an extra traffic officer whereby the additional traffic officer assisting at the major intersections of which we thought this would be the solution at those busy intersections. The traffic officer presence helped a bit, however he too had his hands full with the traffic congestion. In view of this, we will look at alternatives to address this. With regards to our race organiser loosing his calmness, this unfornutely are a direct result of seeing that all that preparations and running around for the event to be a success gone to waste got the better of him on the field and the cherry on the cake was when runners questioned him on a few things of which at that point it was out of his control to fix. I do apologise for his uncalled for behaviour. The club will address this with him. This points out like I mentioned at the beginning of this reply we need to change our strategy whereby it is clear that having one person organising the event of this field is not enough, and the responsibility need to be split into different sections. Thank you for the feedback provided thus far, we value your input and would like to get our event to an acceptable standard whereby runners can feel safe and receive efficient good friendly service. Kind Regards Merton Snyders Chairperson Old Mutual Athletics Club
