The principles of international humanitarian law are similar to some of our ancestral traditions, observes Mohammed Tahir, representative of the Association des autorités coutumières et traditionnelles du Tchad. Last week 14 academics, imams, representatives of traditional authorities and ulemas (scholars and experts of the Koran and Muslim law) met in NDjamena to talk about humanitarian law and Islam (origins of the laws, cultural practices, red cross emblem, …). This seminar has enabled us to eliminate barriers, says Al-Hadi Naim Oumar, Deputy Secretary General of the Chadian High Council of Islamic Affairs.
