The prison that History escaped from, journalism has landed itself in, at least in Benue State. History used to be the records of the lives and activities of kings and nobles. USED TO, because today, History cares more for the lives of the ordinary woman and man, the so-called faceless individuals or the rabble rousers. What a testimonial, with the emergence and growth of such branches as SOCIAL AND CULTURAL HISTORY. Indeed the discipline of History leads in the pursuit of Gender Studies. HOWEVER, in Benue State of Nigeria, to limit my generalization, the practice of journalism has started and ended with the lives and activities of political chief executives, dwelling principally around the core of power. Journalists have become praise singers, devoid of creativity and rigorous pursuit of truth. It is an ugly development. So appalling I must say.
