The problem as I see it with what appears to have become the preeminent position of PosiDrive within LD nursing is that thinking has become increasingly immersed in mental speculation about what is arguably a negative even relatively unimportant issue..i.e. managing challenging behaviour or rather behaviours that challenge. After thirty years of contingently anticipating positive outcome response contingent Mars Bars, what are we still actually faced with?...learning disability..what do people with LD typically need? accomplishment number 4...learning skills, occupation and allowing CB to largely take care of itself which in the absence of skills deficient boredom it mostly does..but what has happened? LD nursing has found its way into a dead end of never ending reworking of mentally speculative posispeakpsychobabble a kind of vision of hell whereas speech and language therapists have quietly stepped out of teaching people to communicate which traditionally effectively often failed in terms of significant life changing improvement into the far more positive realm of feeding, swallowing and teaching associated skills within an area which at one time was the exclusive realm of LD nurses whose once superb practical skills have been lost and not even passed on to our fellow graduate colleagues who appear to be largely focused upon what appears to be lecture presentations on safe liquid consistencies and PEG feed risk assessments, described by learning coodinators who probably have never seen the practical and effective techniques of severely LD people actually learning to eat and drink independently...
