The problem is that the prison system is muchly self sustaining. During my time in lock up I was charged a minimum of $10 a day for room and board, on work release it was 10%. If you get out and dont make payments you can get locked back up or your probation can be extended. Along with that is the fact of how many prisoners are there for nonviolent crimes, violent crimes including robbery and burglary. The number in there for pot or drug possession is really rather astounding. There are people in lock up here for not paying child support, often doubling their debt. Too much debt can make it hard to get a job with the popular credit checks. Having been convicted or a crime makes it even harder, even if you hurt no one but yourself. And then....... people keep posting this exact meme, but then the question of having our military overseas in places where we shouldnt be and are not wanted comes up. Sorry, just had a lil on my chest.
